The event venue, the Humanities Research Institute (HRI), is located in central Sheffield, very close to the main University campus. The venue has two entrances, we will be using the one on Gell Street. A University campus map can be viewed here. Manchester, Leeds/Bradford and Nottingham East Midlands airports are all about an hour’s travel time from Sheffield.
Robin Hood Airport near Doncaster is around 30 minutes away by car.
Manchester Airport is served by many domestic and international carriers and has a direct rail link to Sheffield both day and night.
Both London airports (Heathrow and Gatwick) are reasonably accessible by rail with just one change of train. We recommend you to allow at least four hours travel time between either of these airports and Sheffield.
Sheffield is at the heart of the railway network. Regular services operate between Sheffield and London St. Pancras (from just over 2 hours), Birmingham (1.25 hours), Leeds (1 hour) Manchester (1 hour) and Nottingham (1 hour).
There is a direct link on the blue route (in the direction of Malin Bridge) from the railway station to the Sheffield University Supertram stop. The University tram stop is a two minute walk from the event venue.
National Express operates a comprehensive coach service to most parts of the country from Sheffield Transport Interchange, Pond Street. The fastest service to London takes about 3.5 hours. Pond Street is around a 25 minute walk from the conference venue.
The 40 bus runs from the Transport Interchange, and there are Supertram links via the railway station and Commercial Street.
Megabus coaches connect destinations worldwide, including Meadowhall Interchange which is about four miles from Sheffield city centre, or a simple Supertram journey away from the event venue on the yellow route (in the direction of Middlewood).
Parking on campus is limited, so if you plan to drive to the University please arrange parking with your hosts in advance. This helps us ensure you find a convenient location.
We recommend that, unless you know the city well, when travelling from the north, east and south you should approach Sheffield by the M1 (and M18 if necessary). From the west, use the M60 and A628 Woodhead Pass, following the signs for Sheffield.
